Another charming story about the Golliwogg's adventures with his dutch peg doll friends Peggy, Weg, Meg, Sarah Jane and the dinky little Midget. This tale is about their disastrous adventures with an 'auto cart'. This is the 6th in a 13 book series of golliwogg books written by mother Bertha and illustrated by daughter Florence (1873-1922) between 1896 - 1909. The word Golliwogg, which is no longer considered a socially acceptable word, originated from these books and is listed in the dictionary. Upton illustrated other children's books (see the Vege-men's Revenge for example) and was an accomplished artist, exhibiting at the Royal Academy, London. 217x282 mm. 66pp. Paper covered illustrated boards over green cloth backstrip.
