Fifth Thousand. A collection of engravings by Dorothy Tennant that previously appeared in several other publications, all of what she refers to as 'ragamuffins' - the children who lived in the streets of 19th century London. They are very appealing, and that is her intention as she set out in her introduction - she is attempting to show an alternative side to their normal presentation in the media of the day. There are 40 illustrations, all presented as plates. Frontispiece is an engraving with tissue guard of Dorothy Tennant. An interesting book showing an even more interesting aspect of Victorian life in England. aeg. 25x19 cm. Beige cloth with wide green backstrip. Green lettering and vignette to front and gilt titling to backstrip. Grubby boards, worn corners, backstip bumped. Slight bend to boards. Some browning to endpapers. Interior very good.
