[c. 1920's] A real classic of German children's literature, this was first published in 1914, in German. This volume, the fifth Dutch edition, was translated from the German by Listal and retains the original von Olfers drawings (which for some reason are not attributed). 8 full page chromolithographic illustrations by von Olfers (who was a Nun at the time she wrote and illustrated this book) in a very Art Nouveau style. Very strong colours to the chromolithographs. Specific condition: Binding: Edges worn, bottom of backstrip bumped, text block staples loose. Interior: Closed tear (c. 12 cm) to first page, now mended with archival tape. Occasional small tears to page edges and one small chip. Centre pages loose from staples. Illustrations clean and unmarked. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
