Jonathan Swift, Illustrated By Harry G. Theaker Gulliver's Travels London Ward, Lock and Co. Limited 1928 Hardcover Good Fair Jacket Harry G. Theaker 44 full colour plates by Harry G. Theaker, popular illustrator of children's books primarily during the 20's and 30's. There were several books published by Ward Lock in this series, others illustrated by Theaker (Grimm's Fairy Tales, The Water Babies etc.) and others illustrated by Margaret W. Tarrant and A. E. Jackson. As with these other volumes the plates make it a very special edition of this popular children's favourite. (see my catalogue for some of these other volumes). The photo shows the pictorial cover together with the dust jacket, both of which have different colour illustrations. 338 pages plus 6 of book adverts. Note: The cover and frontispiece state 48 illustrations, but the table of contents call up 44 and the book has been collated with 44 - this is correct as published. Specific condition: Dust Jacket: Unfortunately on the front cover and flap remain. They are creased and chipped, but there! Binding: The front board has benefitted from the jacket as it is wonderfully clean and crisp. The binding is tight and the unusual pictorial end papers are present. There is a damp stain on the rear board which has badly discoloured it and affected the rear end papers. Interior: Personal inscription on one of prelims. Contents clean and very good apart from staining caused from rear board. This does affect about the last 30 printed pages with some impact on about 20 more. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Price:
33.00 GBP

Swift, Dean (Jonathan) Gulliver's Travels Into Several Remote Nations of the World New York & Boston H. M. Caldwell Company 1898 Decorative Cloth Very Good Poor Jacket Contains 10 chromolithographic plates and many intext wood-cuts. This was a new edition that contains explanatory notes by John Frances Waller. The chromolithographs are not attributed, but they are very good quality and in nice clear and bright condtion. The spine of the dust jacket is missing and the remaining parts are quite delicate. It is now all protected in an archival film cover (this can be removed - no fixative is involved). Despite the dust jacket condition, it is extremely rare to see this edition with a dust jacket. The top of the rear board has traces of damp, as does the rear end paper. There is very minor browning internally to a few pages, but basically the condition is very good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Price:
40.00 GBP
