London Hildesheimer & Faulkner Hardcover Good St. Clair Simmons and Alice West
[1892] 8 full page chromolithograph illustrations, all of victorian children with typical themes of playing, animals, the country side and so on. This is a beautifully presented book that shows all that was lovely with Victorian children's books. It comprises verses by Weatherly, sepia tone wood cuts by Alice West and full page chromolithographs by St. Clair Simmons. Needless to say it was printed in Germany. Brown cloth backstrip, floral end papers. Personal inscription, from 1889, on front pastedown. Corners worn, top / bottom of backstrip bumped, beige boards a bit grubby. Front hinge reinforced with archival tape. Stringing a bit loose. Closed tear to border of one illustration. Some brown spots. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Contains eight pages of splendid movable chromolithograph illustrations, horizontal slats operated by tabs. Beautiful Nister chromos and victorian children subject matter. Large format. 32.5x25 cm; 20+8 pp. Hunt p. 313. Montanaro p. 180. Slightly grubby boards with bumped corners, top / tail of backstrip. Binding re-set with replacement end papers, retaining original front and rear free endpapers. Contents clean, all movables work. Printed on wood pulp paper which is now quite brittle, hence some chipping to edges. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
