n.d. [dated from Bodleian reference]. Sweet story, writing in verse, of two young people - Sambo and Susanna - who meet, fall in love but due to family resistance they have to run away to be together. They eventually make it to Rub-a-Dub town where they marry and live happily ever after! 24 charming full page colour illustrations by Ethel Parkinson. Each pair of text pages and each pair of plates are presented as uncut pages. 215x285 mm. unpaginated. Paper covered illustrated boards over dark green backstrip. Illustration on lower and upper boards. Corners / edges worn. Scuffing and grubbiness to boards. Binding re-set with replacement backstrip over spine - part of original has been re-laid where it lies on the boards. Replacement plain endpapers [as original]. Corners to borders of first six pages torn. Tear to first illustration with a little loss of paper. Old sellotape stain to edge of last page.

A wonderful copy of this Chloe Preston classic, as referred to in Hillier (p. 28). Six full page colour plates all printed on grey card paper (as per cover - see photograph) plus 11 other black and white wood cuts. Condition: Binding: corners rubbed otherwise fine; Interior: Some finger prints and the remains of some crayoning that has been removed from the blank side of one of the illustrations. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
