London T. C. & E. C. Jack, Ltd. Hardcover Very Good Olive Allen
[1907] Contains 8 full colour plates including frontispiece. The illustrations are nicely commissioned, of children in Regency style clothing and several of them being presented within an Art Nouveau inspired floral frame. Olive Allen is one of those illustrators of children's books that is just as accomplished and appealing as the likes of Tarrant and Attwell, but not as well known. The story presented here posthumously, was originally published in 1846. This story has been often repeated in various children's book series, this one is part of the 'Told to the Children Series' edited by Louey Chisholm and first published by E.C. and T.C. Jack from 1905-10. The series includes over 30 titles from well known authors and illustrators of the day who took 19th century children's classics and retold them in a simple manner for young children. Due to their nice presentation they are now very collectible. 111pages. 15x11 cm. Corners worn; top / tail of backstrip bumped. Nick to edge of upper board.
