Contains 12 colour plates [collated] and a selection of short stories and classic fairy tales from different origins [Andersen, Perrault, Ransome, Graham and so on]. BB and Watkins-Pitchford are one and the same person - his own name was used for his illustrations and the pseudonym BB was used for his writing. An author of books for children and adults, Watkins-Pitchford won the Carnegie Medal in 1942, and is a very accomplished FRSA artist and illustrator. Well known for his scraperboard technique illustrations he was also influenced by Rackham, which is quite evident in the illustrations in this particular book. Black and yellow scraperboard title page. 12 colour plates with decorative chapter head and tail pieces. 25x19cm. 143pp. Corners and top/tail backstrip bumped. Edges rubbed. Backstrip sunned.
