The Twins, Edward Shirley; Illustrated By John Hassall
120 Edward Shirley; Illustrated By John Hassall The Twins
London T. Nelson & Sons Ltd. First Edition Hard Cover Good John Hassall
[1904] This is a very nicely illustrated book by John Hassall of two twins who both wear oversized red berets and whom are both as different as chalk and cheese. The verses in the book, by Edward Shirley, describe the differences between the twins and each page of verse is supported by a full page colour plate, in quite a stylised image where there is always an accent of red, whether this be the beret or a book or a pair of slippers - really nice. There are 24 colour plates in all. Condition: Binding: Re-backed with new blue cloth backstrip; corners and edges worn; some loss to edges of cover paper where it lies over the new backstrip; some browning to front and rear free end papers and some bubbling to the fixed end papers.
